We carry most brands of disposable contact lenses. Modalities include daily, bi weekly and monthly disposables. A question we often get is, "Which is the best brand?" Well, there is no one brand that is absolutely the best, but we need to find the brand and type that is the most suitable for you. For this, we would need to check a few things on your eyes like the curvature of your eyes' surface, the diameter of your corneas and even the quality of your tears. We would also like to know how frequently and how long you would need to wear the lenses for. Do drop by for an assessment if you are thinking of trying contact lenses for the first time, or you are having problems with your current ones. Otherwise, just give us a call or email us to place your orders.
Mordern RGP lenses are rigid lenses made of durable plastic that allow more oxygen to reach the eye than most soft contact lenses (although some special soft lenses are comparable to RGP lenses in oxygen transmission). They generally last about 2 to 3 years and offer sharper vision than soft lenses do. These lenses also tend to stay cleaner than soft lenses because the protein found in our tears cannot stick to them as easily.
So why isn't everyone wearing gas permeable lenses? Because of the initial discomfort. RGPs usually need an adaptation period, about a week for most people, before they can become as comfortable as soft contacts. If you are interested in trying RGPs, do make an appointment for us to asses if you are a suitable candidate. We would usually need to do an in office trial, so you have a better idea of how the lenses will feel.
For contact lens wearers with prebyopia or 'long sighted,' there are a few options aviable to help you read better. First is to continue wearing your current normal lenses and use a pair of reading glasses over the lenses when you need to read. This is probably the simplest solution, though not the most convenient.
Multifocal contact lenses allows for better near vision, though they may compromise the distance clarity slightly. Various brands offer options which are either more biased for the distance or the near. Our goal would be to find the right balanceto suit you and your lifestyle.
Another option, using single vision contact lenses, would be to adjust the vision of one eye to see the distance better, while the other to see near better. This system, called monovision, works surprisingly well! It does take a few days to adjust to and may affect your 3D perception initially.
So if you are having problems reading with your contact lenses, do drop by so we can explore and find the best solution for you.
